Where I've Been

I arrived at Michigan State aiming to pursue a path in sports management. By the time I graduated my drive to follow through on that intention had waned, nor had I found an alternative I felt enthused to chase after. I took the opportunity to travel, making my way through parts of Europe. I was opened up to a world of artistic expression I hadn't experienced to such a degree. Upon returning I tried my hand in a variety of fields, attempting to determine what provided me with gratification and fulfillment.

During this period of career related trial and error, I sat down after a long work day to watch television and let my mind rest. It was then I realized what I want to work toward. Writing. It was apparent how much I value the mental vacation a quality television show allowed me to take, and I want to try to supply that relief to others in some form or fashion. After some additional thought, I concluded that commercials should be as entertaining and intelligent as the tv shows they air next to. And I also revered the challenge of telling a story in a brief span of time.

Where I'm Headed

I'm an aspiring copywriter looking for an opportunity to blend my business skillset and artistic aspirations. I receive a great sense of joy and accomplishment participating in the arts and would love the opportunity to provide that energy and zeal to a professional environment. What I lack in formal experience I'm confident I can make up for with a willingness to learn and a thoughtful imagination. Over the course of my professional experiences it has become increasingly clear how important self-expression is to me on a personal level, and am highly motivated to find a field that allows me put that on display.

I adhere to the idea that the written word can be a powerful tool. It has the ability to educate, inform and induce humor. It can tell a complex story in a short period of time. It provides countless opportunities for us to inject our personalities into both our life and work. It can convey emotion and feeling we might struggle to convey verbally. It's there waiting for us to take advantage of all that it can offer. I hope that my relationship with the written word continues to evolve, and that it continues to teach me things about myself and my environment that might otherwise go unlearned.

My business background has provided me with an in-depth understanding of how to properly communicate amongst team members, take inventory of the resources required to complete a project, and organize and implement the steps necessary to fulfill a project successfully from start to finish. I also abide by the importance of workplace culture, and encourage input on where improvements can be made to both incentivize and motivate employees to attempt to put forth their best work. I believe my interpersonal approach with an emphasis on open communication, process improvement and team building would be a positive addition to a workplace.

When I'm Not Working...

I'm polishing my screenplay I hope I'm fortunate enough to have made, or writing jokes for a stand-up set I'm finding the courage to perform. If not, I'm sitting quietly on the couch with my dog, Taco, watching my beloved Detroit Lions or the newest true crime series on HBO.
